1 Scope
This International Standard lists items to be included in the maximum load of small craft without exceeding the limits set by other ISO standards for stability, freeboard, flotation and crew. It further sets requirements for seating of crew members. This International Standard applies to small craft with a length of hull of up to in accordance with ISO 8666. Excluded are inflatable boats covered by ISO 61 85 and personal watercraft covered by ISO 1 3590.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this International Standard, the following terms and definitions apply.3.2 seat any surface, horizontal or nearly horizontal, where a person may sit, with minimum dimensions of width by length (i.e. depth of the seat plus clear foot space in front of the seat) NOTE It is recommended that a width of be provided. 3.3 seating area clear sole space in an open boat or in a cockpit provided that an area measuring be available for each person so accommodated NOTE For dinghies in design category C and D, the deck area beside the cockpit may be used for this purpose.
5 Maximum load
The term “maximum load” is to be understood as the “manufacturer’s recommended maximum load”. This shall not exceed the total load that may be added to the light craft mass in accordance with ISO 8666 without exceeding the requirements for stability, freeboard, flotation in accordance with ISO 1 221 7-1 , ISO 1 221 7-2 and ISO 1 221 7-3, and seating requirements and shall take into account the boat design category. As a minimum it shall take account of the mass of the following: a) the number of persons at each according to clause 4. Where children are carried as part of the crew the maximum number of persons may be exceeded provided that each child’s mass does not surpass a limit of and the total persons mass is not exceeded; b) basic equipment of , but not less than ; c) stores and cargo (if any), dry provisions, consumable liquids [not covered by d) or e)], and miscellaneous equipment not included in the light craft mass or in b); d) consumable liquids (fresh water, fuel) in portable tanks filled to the maximum capacity; e) consumable liquids (fresh water, fuel) in permanently installed tanks filled to the maximum capacity; f) a liferaft or dinghy when intended to be carried.
6 Owner’s manual
6.1 The manufacturer shall state in the Owner’s Manual the maximum recommended number of persons in accordance with clause 4. Where provision has been made to enable children to replace an adult in accordance with 5 a), where necessary, details of any change to the seating arrangements shall be clearly stated. See ISO 1 0240. 6.2 The manufacturer shall state in the Owner’s Manual the maximum load recommended by him in accordance with clause 5. The descriptions of 5 a) to 5 f) shall be listed with a note stating that the maximum recommended load includes only these items.
